Policemen threaten the new government with daily protests

The new Mihai Tudose cabinet is not yet in office, but already faces threats with protests. The Federation of Police Trade Unions has announced on Tuesday that it will hold protests in front of PSD headquarters on Kiseleff St. for several days.

“As of July 10, we will protest in the first three days of the week, after which we will hold a large protest. We have requests from the country that 10,000-15,000 people would come,” Dumitru Coarnă, SNPPC Federation President, said on Tuesday for Antena 3 TV.

The main discontent of the trade union is that they will not get the 15% wage increase, Coarnă said.

“The 15% increase will be for everyone, except for the Interior Ministry employees,” the SNPPC Federation President said.

According to Coarnă, the policemen are angry with PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea, with Labour Minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu and Darius Vâlcov, but not with the resigned Interior Minister Carmen Dan.

“I am amazed at how easy this woman lies,” said Dumitru Coarnă referring to Lia Olguţa Vasilescu.

“Today, June 27, in a meeting of the Central Executive Bureau of the Federation of National Police Trade Union and of the Contractual Staff, an organization with a recognized legal representation at branch level, we decided to organize protests, during the next month, for several days, in front of the Social Democratic Party headquarters in Bucharest, to express our dissatisfaction with two of the worst problems that have a chronic impact on the Ministry of Internal Affairs: – the precarious wages in the MAI against the current economic realities, as well as for other categories of budgetary personnel; – the MAI under-financing, which involves both staff shortage and the need to maintain some facilities and technical means of transport, which entails multiple risks to the physical integrity of our trade union members,” the policemen trade union communiqué reads.
