The Ministry of Defence in Lisbon announced that it intends to sell other five F-16 multi-purpose aircraft to Romania, in view of replacing them with other US-bought aircraft and upgraded by Portugal, the Portuguese press informs.
“As in the previous programme, the aircraft to be sold are from the national inventory and will be replaced by other US aircraft and subject to a Mid-Life Upgrade programme by the Portuguese Air Force and the national defence industry,” the Ministry of Defence in Lisbon announced.
The sale of airplanes will also have to be negotiated with the US aircraft manufacturer, a process that has not yet been completed, the authorities said.
According to the Lusa news agency and The Portugal News portal, the Ministry of Defence has also reported that the previous transaction, by which Portugal sold several F-16s to Romania, was a success “recognized by all parties”.
