President Iohannis wanted to decorate Queen Anne, but the Royal Family’s traditions don’t allow a post-mortem decoration, sources from the Presidential Administration told Mediafax.
“Romania’s president, Klaus Iohannis, clearly expressed his intention to decorate Queen Anne, but the traditions of the Royal Family don’t allow his members being decorate post-mortem,” according to sources with the Presidential Administration.
The sources also said that the decoration would involve honors according to the military rules, not national funerals.
According to the Royal House, the Romanian state offered no distinction to Queen Anne during her 92 years of life.
The government decided that August 13, when the queen will be buried, should be day of national mourning all over Romania. The authorities of neighboring Republic of Moldova passed the same decision on Friday.
