President Iohannis visits Piatra Craiului National Park

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis visited the Zărnești Gorges in the Piatra Craiului National Park on Wednesday, May 22, on the occasion of the International Biodiversity Day, during which he rode a bicycle, witnessed a demonstration by mountain rescuers and talked with the park administrators.
“I think it’s important to step away from politics from time to time and see that we live in a country with an extraordinarily beautiful nature that I think deserves to be visited much, much more often. I met extraordinary people today, who took me to the mountains“, the president stated.
When he was at the center, Iohannis says he crossed paths with a group of children who were visiting the area as part of “Green Week”.
“The children also come to visit these centers, and the national parks, and the natural parks. It is a project between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Environment. I can also tell you that funds have been found from the Ministry of the Environment both for the “Green Week” Program and for a program that is just at the beginning, it is called “Junior Ranger”, and it is intended to be a program through which young people are attracted to the job of park ranger, a very nice and future job”, said Klaus Iohannis.
The president ended his speech by inviting Romanians to visit the country: “And, in fact, this is what I wanted to emphasize with my visit today, from here: we have extraordinarily beautiful areas, we have very dedicated people. Come and visit them!”
Asked by a journalist about the problem of wild animals, in the context of the three bears shot on Tuesday evening in Miercurea Ciuc, Iohannis said that “it’s a complicated problem”. “It is never desirable for a wild animal to be shot for living in its habitat, but it cannot be avoided all the time. We coexist – we humans, communities – coexist with wild animals, often in the same habitat, and unfortunately conflicts are not always avoidable.”
