Rare images with over 100 flamingos noticed in the Danube Delta

Over 100 flamingos were noticed in the Danube Delta this week. 49 birds were spotted in the Sarături Murighiol protected area, while another 60 were seen on Tuzla Lake, according to the Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation (ARBDD).

“The feathering of these magnificent birds changes colour due to the diet, with the birds having various shades of pink depending on the location and the food available in the area. The flamingos are currently in migration and in the process of pairing, and the rest stops chosen by them to look for food are less deep waters. The flamingos live in colonies consisting in hundreds of specimens, they lay one egg that is particularly taken care of by both parents”, the ARBDD says on its Facebook page.

The Association explains that new species of birds have been sporadically seen in the area of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation, as they are lured by the favorable conditions here, by the diversity of the habitats and ecosystems and by the plentiful and various food.

Flamingos were spotted for the first time in the Danube Delta last year. There were only tens of flamingos noticed back then, but it was the most numerous group of this species noticed in Romania in the past century.
