Turda Salt Mine is one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Romania. Visitor number five hundred thousand this year descended underground these days, not before receiving a free subscription gift for life for two people. It was for the first time in the history of the mine when the number of tourists in a year passes half a million. Turda salt mine was reopened in 2010 after an investment of EUR 6 million carried out with European funds, digi24.ro informs.
Visitor number 500,000 is from Mures County and came for the second time in Turda salt mine. Dan Hudrea, winner: “I was not expecting any surprises. But this time it seems that I was lucky. It’s a beautiful prize and I thank them!”
The winner came to Turda salt mine along with some friends from Germany, whom he managed to impress.
Reopened in 2010 after a EUR 6 million modernization, the Turda salt mine quickly turned into a magnet for foreign and Romanian tourists. The number of visitors exceeded expectations.
Mayor of Turda, Tudor Stefanie says: “We used to start somewhere from 40,000 visitors to a maximum of 80,000 and there was a possible increase for spa tourism, but we never exceeded 100,000 tourists. In latest years the number of visitors exceeded 400,000.”
Last year, nearly 480,000 people came in the salt mine. A ticket for adults RON 20 (some EUR 4.75), children pay half and the retired people RON 12.
