Romania-born Norwegian Forest Cat wins 2025 Scandinavian Cup

The beauty of cats bred by Romanian breeders continues to make waves at the most prestigious international feline competitions. Prosecco, a white Norwegian Forest Cat, proudly carried on a family tradition this weekend by winning the 2025 Scandinavian Cup – Scandinavian FIFe Winner Show!

The Scandinavian FIFe Winner Show is one of the most prestigious exhibitions organized under the auspices of the International Feline Federation (FIFe), due to the impressive number of cats participating. It is considered the second most important feline competition in the world, after the FIFe World Winner Show.

The trophy won by Prosecco is even more valuable considering his father, Nordri, born in the same cattery, was crowned European Champion in 2024. It is a clear reaffirmation of the genetic quality and hard work of the two proud Romanian breeders, Aurelian and Cora Ionescu.

This year, around 600 cats from across Europe gathered in Oulu, Finland, to compete for this highly coveted title.

In recent years, cats born in Romania have begun to dominate international competitions, showcasing the passion, perseverance, and professionalism of Romanian breeders. Romania is now consistently asserting itself in the global elite of feline breeding, even though the Romanian Feline Federation – Felis Romania – has only been active for 20 years, a short time compared to other international federations with nearly a century of tradition.

In light of these international achievements, the hosting of the most important feline event in the world – the FIFe World Winner Show 2025 – in Bucharest, on October 25–26, 2025, at the Romexpo Central Pavilion, comes as a natural crowning of the sustained efforts of Romania’s feline community. It also offers the Romanian public a unique opportunity to support their own local stars, born and raised here, who will have real chances to win the most coveted title in the international feline world.

The event will bring together over 1,000 cats from the world’s most prestigious catteries and will represent the highest level of feline competition. For the Romanian public, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to admire the most spectacular specimens and cheer on their favorites — future world champions, born right here in Romania.

The awarding of this championship to Romania is a formal recognition of the value of the Felis Romania Federation and its constant involvement in the development and international promotion of feline excellence.
