A total of 84 academicians have signed a nationalist appeal to the Romanian people and the state institutions pleading “strongly in favour of identity, sovereignty and national unity,” hotnews.ro informs.
The source comments that the appeal seems inspired from the PSD rhetoric and its associated media, which has launched lately the idea that the anticorruption protests may lead to Romania’s disintegration.
The head of the parliamentary committee for SRI control, Adrian Tutuianu, expressed concern over a scenario similar to the one in Kiev, saying that such protests have led to the country’s disintegration and that scenarios that led to the ‘hybrid war’ should be analysed.
Among the signing academicians, correspondent members of the Academy and honorary members are Nicolae Breban, Eugen Simion, Mariana Nicolesco, Dumitru Radu Popescu and Dan Berindei.
“Concerned particularly by the recurring attempts for Romania’s <regionalization> or by the creating of autonomous ethnic enclaves, contrary to the Romanian Constitution and to the trends of European integration, totally unproductive in terms of economic, social and quality of life in these areas,
– We express our firm stance against all these actions,
– We speak strongly in the favour of identity, sovereignty and national unity,
– We ask the competent institutions of the Romanian State, at all levels, to watch and act to prevent, to counter and, when the law is violated, to punish all diversions and aggressions against the identity, sovereignty and national unity of Romania and to the stability of the rule of law.
– We call to join us, in this endeavour, the entire Romanian people, all the inhabitants of this land,
– We call in particular the intellectuals, inviting them to be an example of wisdom and patriotism.
– We call upon politicians, inviting them to work with responsibility and patriotism for the sake of Romania,” the appeal reds.
The appeal concludes by saying “Let’s honour our heroes, let’s act similarly by leaving to the next generations, to all Romania’s people, a united, sovereign country, with love for its past and culture, with self-esteem, master of its land, educated and prosperous, a country of United Europe with pure, own Romanian identity. May the future judge us!”
