Romanian bus involved in accident in Bulgaria: 11 Romanians hospitalised

A bus registered in Romania was involved in an accident on Thursday, near Vidin, 11 Romanians being slightly injured, according to the first information submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Romanian Embassy in Sofia is closely following events related to the road accident on June 7, near Vidin, involving a bus registered in Romania with 48 passengers aboard,” the MAE informs.

Representatives of the diplomatic mission have taken urgent action with the local authorities to obtain additional information on the citizenship, identity and situation of the affected persons.

According to the information obtained by embassy representatives, “following the accident, 11 Romanian citizens suffered minor and medium injuries, and required medical care.” Ten of them were transported to a medical facility in the area, and were then discharged from hospital on demand, in order to continue their journey.

The coach was returning to Romania from Greece, said Paul Ciocoiu, MAE spokesman. It seems that the driver has engaged in a risky overrun, but the circumstances of the accident will be determined by the authorities, according to the quoted source. There were two children aboard the coach.

A mobile consular team at the Romanian Embassy in Sofia went to the site of the accident and to the hospital where the injured people were transported to provide consular assistance.

Also, embassy representatives have contacted the transport company, and another company bus would take over all the passengers.

The local authorities’ investigation is ongoing, with Romanian citizens going to continue their trip on Thursday after the completion of preliminary procedures, the MAE further informs.
