Romanian engineer kidnapped in Libya. Foreign Ministry activates the crisis cell

A Romanian engineer has been kidnapped by armed men near an oil well area in western Libya, sources quoted by ‘Libyan Express’ say.

International press agencies have also reported that at least two people, including a Romanian, were kidnapped Saturday by a Libyan militia in an attack on a Sharara oilfield. It is not known where the kidnapped people were taken to and no grouping has claimed yet the action. The Romanian Foreign Ministry has announced the activation of a crisis cell, but noted that the verification procedures could last, given the security situation in Libya. Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu said that the role of the crisis cell is primarily to confirm whether the kidnapped Romanian citizen is hostage or if he has been released and then to find out which of the military groups in the area are responsible, reports.

According to Digi24 TV private broadcaster, the Romanian citizen is from Ploiesti, an engineer working in Africa for 15 years.
