Romanian famous conductor dies of COVID-19

Camil Marinescu, one of the most famous Romanian contemporary conductors has died “after a three-week battle with the Covid-19 virus”, his brother Ciprian Marinescu has announced on Facebook on Monday.
Unfortunately, after a three-week battle with the Covid-19 virus, my beloved brother has passed away today at 6 a.m.,” says his brother’s Facebook post.

Camil Marinescu was born in Bucharest in 1964 and graduated the National Music University, bassoon and conducting classes. Marinescu studied with Cristian Mandeal, Mihai Brediceanu and Pierre Dervaux.

He was conductor of the Bucharest National Opera for ten years and also collaborated with various national and international orchestras such as Iasi Symphony Hall, Berliner Sinfonie Orchester and Osaka Symphony Hall, but he also conducted in US, Canada, France, Austria, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, Russia, Australia, China, UK or Israel.

Since 2012 till the present day Camil Marinescu was main conductor of the Georghe Enescu Symphony Hall in Bucharest.
