The Romanian parliamentary delegation in Norway has ‘imperatively’ called on the local governor, where the Bodnariu family lives, to review the placement order for the children, allegedly disproportionate and seen as an abusive interpretation of the principle regarding the superior interest of the child.
A release issued by the Senate reads that “Romanian MPs have imperatively called for the review of the temporary placement order, considering that the measure is disproportionate and represents an abusive interpretation of the principle regarding the superior interest of the child (according to relevant international legal framework), adding that there are reasonable suspicions about procedural flaws (Barnevernet’s failure to observe the procedural steps according to Norwegian legislation).”
During the meeting with the Sogn og Fjordane County Governor Anne Karin Hamre, the Romanian MPs have explained the situation faced by several families whose children have been placed to temporary families. The lawmakers mentioned that the Bodnariu family situation has resulted on a deep emotion among Romanian citizens because Barnevernet, the social institution dealing with observing children’s rights in Norway, acts with lack of transparency and there are suspicions about the way it deals with the cases.
The parliamentary delegation visited Marius and Ruth Bodnariu, discussed with the two and visited their home and found out that it fits the needs of children, according to the quoted source. The MPs have also discussed with the neighbours and members of the local community.
