Romanian pro player won big prize at online games tournament in Shanghai

Syrian-born Romanian pro player Aliwal “w33” Omar, 21, along with eSports team, won big Dota 2 online games tournament in Shanghai, amounting to over EUR 1 million.

„Secret captain and long time veteran Clement “Puppey” Ivanov proudly claims the Mystic Staff trophy of the Shanghai Major alongside pub star Omar “w33haa” Aliwi and engineering student turned professional Dota 2 player Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao. Joining them on the winner’s podium are Johan “pieliedie” Astrom and Rasmus “Misery” Filipsen,” esports.inquirer.net informs.

Multi-billion dollar corporation Valve organized this grand event at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The best 16 teams from all over the world duked it out for the lion’s share of the hefty USD 3 million prize pool.

The Dota 2 Majors tournaments are a series of premier Dota 2 events that pit the world’s best teams against one another.

The next Valve-sponsored Major will take place in June of this year in Manila.

Aliwal “w33” Omar has played DotA since 2004 and DotA 2 since 2011. Before pursuing a professional DotA career, he graduated National College ’I. L. Caragiale’ and now he is studying as student at the Polytechnic University in Bucharest.

So far won over USD 700,000 in awards from competitions, without counting his part of the prize from Shanghai.

Next to DotA his favorite games are Counter-Strike, which he is playing since version 1.4 (2010) and RPGs like the Fallout series.
