Romanian pupils got five medals, two gold ones, in the International Physics Olympiad, held in Switzerland during July 11-17, and other six medals in the 57th edition of the International Mathematics Olympiad in Hong Kong.
Ştefan Eniceicu and Răzvan Radu won gold medals, and Robert Răveanu, Andrei Răduc and Tudor Creţu won silver medals in the 47th edition of the International Physics Olympiad in Switzerland. The five boys are pupils at the International Informatics High School in Bucharest. 450 pupils in 90 countries took part in this contest.
Romanian pupils also grabbed six medals at the International Mathematics Olympiad in Hong Kong. Teodor Andrei Andronache, Ovidiu Neculai Avădanei, Ciprian Mircea Bonciocat, Alexandru Pascadi and Ioan Laurenţiu Ploscaru won silver medals and Tudor Plopeanu won a bronze medal.
They are pupils at the International Informatics High School in Bucharest and at the “Tudor Vianu” National College in Bucharest. The delegation was led by Radu Gologan, the coordinator of the Romania’s international team and president of the Mathematic Sciences Society in Romania and also by Catalin Gherghe from the Mathematics and Informatics Faculty within University of Bucharest.
568 pupils in 109 countries took part this year in the International Mathematics Olympiad, with US ranking first. The first edition of the Olympiad took place in Romania in 1959.
