A Romanian student has won the gold medal at the International Astronomy Olympiad held in Sri Lanka, October 6-14.
At the end of July this year, David Turturean, a high school student from Suceava, northern Romania, has found out that he had qualified for two international astronomy Olympiads: one in China and one in Sri Lanka, according to Playtech.
At that time, his mother announced that the Ministry of Education would not sponsor his trip to the competitions, but David has later on clarified things, saying the ministry had eventually agreed to sponsor his participation to one contest, namely the one in Sri Lanka.
David Turturean has finished the Olympiad in Sri Lanka on the first place, receiving the gold medal. He raced against other 82 contenders from 22 countries.
The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in China is due November 3-10.
