Romanians, EU’s champions on working hours

Full time employees in Romania have worked the utmost in the EU last year during a week time. More precisely, Romanians were working 41 hours a week, however the figure is languishing compared to the previous two years. Romanian employees are followed by citizens from Luxemburg (40.9 hours), UK (40.9 hours), Portugal (40.4 hours), Germany (40.3 hours) and Poland (40.2 hours) on working hours per week, reads a survey conducted by Eurofound.

Finnish and French employees are working the less during a week time, only 37.3 hours, which make them stay at the office over 4 weeks less than the Romanians.

In ten countries in 13 which have joined EU as of 2014, the working hours per week were above the EU average of 39.5 hours. Only Hungary (39.1 hours), Malta (39.2 hours) and Slovakia (39.3 hours) had shorter working hours.

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) is a tripartite European Union Agency, whose role is to provide knowledge in the area of social and work-related policies. Eurofound was set up in 1975 to contribute to the planning and design of better living and working conditions in Europe.
