Romanians, the most numerous immigrants in Germany last year

Romanians were the most numerous immigrants to Germany in 2018. Almost 70,000 Romanians moved to live and work in Germany last year, according to German official statistics, Business Club reports.

Romanians were twice more numerous than Syrians and almost three times most numerous than Poles, who are one of the most largest communities of immigrants in Germany.

Experts estimate that, in the upcoming 20 years, one in three Germans, particularly those living in the big cities, will have foreign origins or will have roots in a foreign country. In Frankfurt, for instance, the share of foreigners might reach up to 65-70%.

This comes amid Germany’s latest policy to open the country to immigrants, as it needs 400,000 immigrants every year till 2060 in order to keep up with the workforce needs.
