SEA SHIELD 16 – The largest Romanian Naval Forces drills this year: 2,000 Romanian and foreign troops, 22 ships, one submarine and 9 aircraft

SEA SHIELD 16, the largest multinational exercise held in 2016 by the Romanian Naval Forces, will take place during July 18-22 in Romanian territorial waters and in the international waters of the Black Sea. During the five days, 1,000 Romanian soldiers and 1,000 troops from seven countries will engage in joint sea exercises.

Romanian Naval Forces participate with 11 ships, two Puma Naval helicopters, two mobile rocket launch detachments and a diving support vessel, the Romanian Air Force ensure the air combat exercises with two aircraft MIG 21 LanceR and a Puma helicopter.

Bulgaria, Canada, Greece, Poland, USA, Turkey and Ukraine participate with five frigates, three hunting submarines, a corvette, a submarine, four aircraft and staff officers.

“Within the SEA SHIELD 16, the structures of the Romanian Naval Forces who are nominated to be part of NATO Reaction Force 2016-2017 will be assessed,” reads a release from the Romanian Naval Forces sent to HotNews.com.

In the five days of exercise, 1,000 Romanian soldiers and 1,000 troops from seven countries will engage in joint sea drills and will implement the operating procedures according to NATO standards, to combat threats of any kind on the sea, underwater and aerial.
