Section for investigating magistrates reveals the new charges against Kovesi in the second file

The special section for investigating magistrates has released on Friday the new charges against former DNA chief prosecutor, Laura Codruta Kovesi in the second file she is being investigated, saying she would have determined a section chief prosecutor to confirm an illegal indictment through which five people have been sent to court.

The special section argues that it has started criminal prosecution against Kovesi for setting up an organised criminal group and for five crimes of complicity to unfair repression.

„During her mandate at the DNA helm, from 2015 to 2016, she would have coordinated through orders the criminal group initiated by two prosecutors and a criminal police officer, and they would have acted in a coordinated manner in the view of committing the crimes of abusive investigation, unfair repression, influencing statements, misleading the judiciary bodies, forgery,” reads a press release by the special section.

The former chief prosecutor of the National Anti-corruption Laura Codruţa Kovesi has been charged and prosecuted in the file of two anti-corruption prosecutors from DNA Ploiesti, Mircea Negulescu and Lucian Onea, following more than five hours of hearings in the Special section for investigating magistrates on Thursday. Kovesi has rebuked all charges, saying she will prove her innocence and denouncing a desperate campaign against her and against her bid for the European chief prosecutor position. Read more here.
