Sentence for Alina Bica and Dorin Cocos, in the ANRP file, postponed to June 12

The first sentence in the file on the National Agency for Property Restitution (ANRP), in which Alina Bica (photo) , the former chief prosecutor of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and businessman Alin Cocos are investigated, has been postponed to June 12.

Bica is currently in Costa Rica, along with former Tourism Minister, Elena Udrea, and claims she cannot return to Romania for health reasons.

In the last hearings at the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court) in the ANRP file, Alina Bica and Dorin Cocos – charged with corruption deeds – the prosecutor requested imprisonment sentences for all defendants, except for the last one, for whom a suspended sentence was requested.

For Alina Bica, charged with abuse of office and bribe taking, the prosecutor requested an imprisonment sentence of 10 years and for Dorin Cocos also an imprisonment verdict.

Other defendants are: Oana Vasilescu (former member of the Central Committee on Setting the compensations from ANRP), Lacramioara Alexandru (former ANAF vice-president), businessman Stelian Gheorghe, Crinita Dumitrean (former ANRP chief), former Deputy Catalin Teodorescu, Sergiu Ionut Diacomatu (former ANRP vice-president, currently also in Costa Rica), Bogdan Dragos (former ANAF vice-president) and former assessor Emil Nutiu.

The Public Ministry requested that all defendants pay damages amounting to almost RON 400 million, about EUR 69 million.

The ICCJ decision will not be final.
