Six Romanians in Ebola-struck Sierra Leone

Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that six Romanians were tracked down in Sierra Leone, a country seriously hit by the Ebola outbreak. According to MFA, five of them used to work for Alro Slatina on Sierra Leone’s territory, they suspended contracts with the company but they still don’t want to come back home, as they work now for another company there. A sixth Romanian citizen traced in Sierra Leone has never worked for Alro Slatina. MFA informs all our nationals are safe and sound and that will constantly keep in touch with them. “Following conversations with these six Romanian citizens, they suggested they did not want to return to Romania, as they are working now for another company. We agreed to constantly keep in touch with them, MFA firmly asking to be informed in due time on their eventual wish to come back in Romania or to be relocated to another area,” reads a MFA press release.

The World Health Organization says Ebola is believed to have killed more than 600 people in Sierra Leone, where there have been more than 2,100 confirmed cases. More than 3,400 people have been killed by the outbreak in West Africa, which has hit Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia hardest. A confirmed case of Ebola has been reported in Spain. Officials said a nurse and a nursing assistant have been placed under observation for Ebola in a Madrid hospital where a colleague became infected after working with two Spanish missionary priests who contracted the disease in West Africa and later died at the centre. The infected nursing assistant is the first person known to catch the disease outside the outbreak zone in West Africa during the current epidemic. She is said to be in stable condition.
