Several municipalities across Romania, together with the private sector, joined forces once again and lit up in purple their buildings and public landmarks on the evening of December 3rd, marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
#PurpleNightRomania is a call to action started by the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce each year. It aims to send a strong message of support and awareness for the inclusion of almost one million persons with disabilities living in Romania.
The Purple Night Romania initiative has become a strong manifest by the private and public sectors, by the media and by citizens overall, with a growing interest from one year to another, as society becomes more and more aware of the disadvantages that people with disabilities are still facing, due to economic and social exclusion, unequal opportunities, lack of access to job offers, and lack of proper mobility and accessibility in general to everyday life.
“This year’s Purple Night Romania surpassed all expectations, bringing together an extraordinary community committed to advocating for inclusivity and raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. The Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of Purple Night Romania 2023. As we reflect on this achievement, let us renew our commitment to creating a world where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive and be celebrated. The success of the fourth edition is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with purpose and compassion,” Perry V. Zizzi, President of the Romanian Diversity Chamber of Commerce, Managing Partner at Dentons Romania, said.
Purple Night Romania 2023 had a total number of 76 participants who lit in purple 89 buildings and public spaces across the country; several participants took other actions to mark this celebration like wearing purple attire, purple bracelets, decorating the offices and shops in purple or even changing the company’s logo to purple, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
