Disaster or air raid alarms are ringing across the country on Wednesday

A national public alarm exercise will take place throughout the country, in case of war. Air raid or disaster alarms will sound in all cities. Firefighters want to test if the installed sirens are working. It is the second such exercise that takes place in Romania after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Although there is the possibility of creating discomfort in the public space by triggering these alarms, the authorities convey that such periodic exercises are necessary and beneficial.

People are advised not to panic, as it is only an exercise, the purpose of which is to know the meaning of the alarm signals and the measures to be taken in the event of the manifestation of some risk factors. During this activity, the residents must not interrupt their normal activity, because this exercise only involves the staff of the local public administration.

The acoustic alarm signals for the population, public institutions and economic operators are: air alarm, disaster alarm, air pre-alarm and the cessation of the alarm.

– The Disaster Alarm signal consists of 5 sounds of 16 seconds each, with a 10-second break between them. For compressed air sirens, the signal consists of 5 sounds of 8 seconds each, with a 5-second pause between them;

– The Air Pre-alarm signal consists of 3 sounds of 32 seconds each, with a 12-second pause between them. For sirens with compressed air, the signal consists of 3 sounds of 16 seconds each, with a 6-second pause between them;

– The Air Alarm signal consists of 15 sounds of 4 seconds each, with a 4-second pause between them. For sirens with compressed air, the signal consists of 15 sounds of two seconds each, with a two-second pause between them;

– The Cease alarm signal consists of a continuous sound, of the same intensity, lasting two minutes.

For sirens with compressed air, the signal consists of a continuous sound, of the same intensity, lasting one minute.
