A fire broke out on Monday afternoon in the premises of the Petrobrazi Refinery owned by OMV Petrom, with three people suffering injuries, and with a SMURD helicopter being sent onsite.
Two people involved in the incident that happened on Monday afternoon in the premises of the Petrobrazi Refinery suffered burns from the flame, one of them on about 72% of the body surface, and the other on about 15% of the body.
According to the Prahova County Ambulance Service, three victims were found at the scene of the request. A 59-year-old man, who has III-IV degree burns, from the flame, on approximately 72% of the body surface and upper airway burns, was taken by the SMURD helicopter and taken to the Floreasca Hospital.
Another man, 55 years old, has II-III degree burns, from the flame, on about 15% of his body and was taken to the Ploiesti County Emergency Hospital.
At the same time, a 60-year-old man has a leg injury, but he refused to be examined and transported to the hospital, the quoted source said.
Prahova Police opened a criminal case following the fire that resulted in casualties at the Petrobrazi Refinery, investigations being conducted in this case under the aspect of several crimes being committed.
According to the Prahova County Police Inspectorate (IJP), investigators are conducting investigations for aggravated criminal damage, failure to take legal security and health measures at work and non-compliance with legal safety and health measures at work.
“Today, around 15:00, a fire occurred in the refinery. The fire was extinguished. Following the incident, three people required medical attention, two of them being transported to the hospital. The company’s emergency response team has been mobilized, has coordinated support operations and is in contact with all relevant authorities. We note that the refinery is in the first week of a six-week review process,” says an official statement from OMV Petrom.
Petrobrazi Refinery has been under general overhaul since April 24, which means that installations on the industrial platform do not contain fuels or oil. The review was to last six weeks, according to an OMV Petrom statement.
