More than 4.4 million cats residing in Romania are celebrating today, August 8, the International Day of Cats, an occasion of joy in almost 48% of the households in our country, according to FEDIAF European Pet Food statistics (European Pet Food Industry Federation). And on August 26th is the International Dog Day, an occasion of joy for approximately 45% of the households in our country.
In Romania, just like in Europe, cats are the most popular pet. No less than 127 million cats at EU level are present in 26% of households in the community space, dogs being in 2nd place, with 104 million in 25% of households, according to FEDIAF.
According to statistics cited by Purina, one of the world’s largest producers of cat and dog food, owned by Nestlé, the pet food market was estimated at 660 million euros in 2020, the last for which there are studies, but no separate figures are available for cat and dog food.
“Purina wishes Happy Birthday and a purrr-fect day to all cats and dogs, as well as their owners in Romania, with the occasion of the anniversary of those wonderful animals. It is also a great opportunity to salute those who provide cats and dogs not only with an environment that favours development, but also with the best and most suitable food for our furry friends. Purina contributes to the well-being of pets and those who love them and is one of the most important ingredients in the relationship between cats and dogs and their owners“, says Diana Bejan, Business Executive Officer Purina South East Market, Nestlé.
