Most Romanians don’t go to theater, barometer shows

How important is culture for Romanians? This is the question the 2014 Cultural Consumption Barometer is trying to answer for the 9th time.

Thus, according to the survey, almost a quarter of Romanians (24 percent) believe that culture is “not so important” and 63 percent never go to the theater.

However, 47 percent of the population read at least one book a month and 43 percent visit museums once a year. The 9th edition of the “Cultural Consumption Barometer 2014. Culture, between global and local” provides information on the dynamics of values and practices in the Romanian society nowadays, on the way the population relates to the cultural sector, which is becoming an essential instrument in local and regional strategy development. The publication will be launched on Monday.

The study addresses both the general public and the specialists and representatives of central and local authorities, the results reflecting the cultural vitality at national level and the population’s consumption trends.
