The Bodnariu case represents “an international campaign against Norway”, two Norwegian ministers say, while stressing that the national leaders’ pressured, which lead to real campaigns on the child protection cases, are not considered by the Norwegian authorities in an individual child protection case.
“A child protection case regarding a Norwegian-Romanian family is in the middle of an escalating international campaign against Norway”, the two ministers tell an article to Mediafax
Solveig Horne, the Norwegian minister of Children and Equality and Elisabeth Aspaker, the minister for EU affairs explained how the child protection system is working in Norway.
Related to Bodnariu case, they say that accusations pointing child-kidnapping charges, genetic selection programming and religious persecution are false, while denying criticism that the Barnevernet, the Norwegian Child Welfare Service is above law.
The ministers argued that the main goal of the Child Welfare Services is to help children and families who are experiencing problems.
However, they say that there also exceptions, like deciding to take away the child from his parents, following a protection order or as an emergency action. “Religious convictions are never valid ground for taking a child from his parents, but violence is a reason. Body correction is illegal in Norway,” the ministers stated, also adding that no system is perfect and if some errors were detected, sanctions would be applied.
