PG reacts on the CCR’s ruling regarding protocols with SRI

Romania’s Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar has reacted on Thursday to the CCR’s decision to admit the referral on the conflict between Parliament and the Public Ministry regarding the protocols concluded with the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI). Lazar state that a preliminary court judge is checking all papers before sending the file in court and that „nobody wants to make a case to compromise him as a professional”.

The Prosecutor General said that statements on how many files might be affected by the CCR’s ruling are „premature”.

The Public Ministry has taken note of the CCR’s ruling. We’ll closely follow the reasoning. What I can tell you is that files have been exclusively handled according to the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code. The judge is checking anytime he/she receives a file to see if the prosecution papers are valid”, Lazar pointed out.

With or without a protocol, when a judge determines that a criminal prosecution action has been done outside the legal framework he declares it void and nobody is interested in working for nothing,” he added.

Nobody wants to make cases that should compromises him/her as a professional. I am still optimist that these papers will be considered legal,” Lazar concluded.
