Stelian Tanase: SRI gave part of his archive to CNSAS, although it claims to have given it all

Stelian Tanase, president and CEO of TVR, said on Thursday that archives must be “easier to visit” and indexed, stating that SRI gave only part of the archive to CNSAS, while it “claims” it gave it all, and that “there is great interest the archives are not researched”.

Stelian Tanase participated on Thursday to the first part of the International Conference “Unlocking Broadcast Archives from Eastern Europe”, which is hosted Thursday and Friday at the headquarters of the Romanian Television in Bucharest.

He said it would be very glad that the archives “would be easier to visit, if fewer obstacles would exist to get to them.” “It is very hard to get to them, when they are available, because most are not indexed,” said Stelian Tanase.

Stelian Tanase said that not even the archive of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) was indexed, as he found out when he went for the first time to investigate different files. Tanase did not say in what year this happened.

Tanase said that “part of the SRI archive was given to CNSAS (National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives), although they are claiming to have given it all”.

“All obstacles to see the archives should be removed. There is great interest the archives are not researched, archives remain closed in the hands of a few archivists who think they have great treasures,” said Stelian Tanase.

The conference is organized in partnership with the European (Post) Socialist History Television Network and FIAT / IFTA Television Studies Commission.
