Romania is under yellow and orange weather warnings for the next few days. Strong winds and blizzards will create difficult conditions in mountainous areas, while the rest of the country will see mixed precipitation. Authorities are warning of the risk of ice formation.
Meteorologists announce precipitation, starting from the night of Thursday, December 2nd, and until Friday evening, in the west, north and center of the country, then in the southern regions. In Crișana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea, rain will predominate, and in Maramureș, Transylvania and the northern half of Moldova, precipitation will be mixed, while in the mountain areas there will be mainly snowfalls and a new layer of snow, of 10-20 cm, will be deposited. Isolated frost deposits will occur.
Yellow code for blizzard and strong winds
Between January 2, 10:00 and January 3, 12:00, in the Eastern Carpathians, the Western Carpathians and the western part of the Southern Carpathians there will be increased winds, with gusts of 60-90 km/h. The blizzard will create snow drifts and visibility below 100 m. In the first part of Friday, the increased winds and blizzard will also affect the rest of the Southern Carpathians, especially at high altitudes. Meteorologists have issued a yellow code warning for increased winds in Bihor, Suceava and Neamț counties. Starting with January 2, 12:00 and until January 3, 03:00, the low-lying areas of Bihor, Suceava and Neamț counties will be affected by increased winds, which will reach significant gusts.
Orange code for strong blizzard and reduced visibility
Between January 2nd, 10:00 PM and January 3rd, 10:00 AM, an orange code is active in the Apuseni Mountains, the northern Eastern Carpathians and the western Southern Carpathians, where at altitudes above 1700 m the wind will reach gusts of 110-120 km/h, and the blizzard will cause visibility to drop below 50 m. These conditions will lead to the formation of snowdrifts and high risks for the safety of those in these mountain areas.
Weather in Bucharest
Between January 2, 10:00 AM and January 4, 10:00 AM, in Bucharest, the weather will be warmer than normal for the beginning of January. Between January 2 and 3, the temperature values will be above the climatological normal for the period, with maximum temperatures of 11-12 degrees and minimums of 1-0 degrees, lower in suburban areas, where they will be recorded up to -2 degrees. The sky will be variable, and the wind will blow weakly and moderately. Also, between January 3, 8:00 AM and January 4, 10:00 AM, temperatures will remain higher than normal for this period, with maximums of approximately 10 degrees and minimums between 1 and 3 degrees. The sky will gradually cloud over, and precipitation in the form of rain will be reported in the evening and at night. The wind will remain weak to moderate.
