Strict safety measures for the Diaspora rally: Mounted Police, dogs and SWAT teams deployed in Victoriei Square. Two protesters taken up

Bucharest Gendarmerie has taken strict measures in the view of the Diaspora meeting, with the security forces from Bucharest being supplemented by troops from Craiova and Prahova, Digi24 reported.

Among the forces deployed in Victoriei Square there are the mounted police, dogs and SWAT teams, also named ‘turtles’ due to their specific equipment.

At this hour, gendarmes have already taken up two protesters, one under the charge of disturbing the social order and the other one for spray paint possession.

Previously in the morning, the policemen had conducted pyrotechnic checks on all cars parked in Victoriei Square area.

The Gendarmerie’s spokespersons have called for calm, urging people to peacefully protest and announcing that violence actions will not be tolerated. The law on the organization of public gatherings stipulates fines ranging from RON 500 to RON 5,000 for several offenses.

The number of gendarmes to keep the order during the Diaspora rally in Victoriei Square on August 10 will be sized to fit the number of protesters, announced the Gendarmerie on Thursday, while stressing they will not clash with the citizens.
