Strong wind, rainfalls rack out southern and eastern country. Consistent snow pack in the mountains

While Muntenia, Dobruga and southern Moldavia was under code yellow warning for strong wind and torrential rains on Sunday, the mountain areas have faced the first consistent snowfalls, with the snow pack being expected to reach even one meter on the highest peaks in the Southern Carpathians. Forecasters have issued a code yellow alert for wind, rainfalls and blizzard.

The snow pack was 82cm on Omu Peak on Sunday and it could climb to one meter by Monday. The thickest snow pack was reported in the Southern Carpathians, in Bucegi Mountains.

The snow pack was measuring 29cm at Lacauti, 24cm at Balea and 12cm at Penteleu.

According to the National Meteorology Administration, heavy rainfalls and strong wind seized northeastern Muntenia, Dobruja and southern Moldavia and snowfalls and blizzard on the Curvature Carpathians’ peaks, in the Bucegi and Fagaras mountains.

Rainfalls and strong wind were also reported in Constanta, Tulcea, Braila, Galati and Vrancea, with blasts of over 80-90km/h.

Snowfall and wind blowing with over 70-80km/h were present in the Curvature Carpathians, and in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains.

In Southern and Eastern Carpathians the wind will blow with 60-70km/h and the blizzard and snowfall sweeping off the snow.

Rain persisted also in eastern Muntenia and central Moldavia, including in Bucharest, but with lower intensity.
