The legal conditions for triggering the general strike at all unions affiliated to the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) are not met, but this does not mean that education employees are satisfied with the unitary wage law, a FSLI statement issued on Monday reads.
According to the cited source, according to the FSLI National College’s decision of May 31, 2017, during June 6-9, 2017 the unionists of trade union organizations affiliated to the federation were consulted by referendum to express their choice on triggering the general strike as of June 12, 2017.
“Following the centralization of data from affiliated trade unions, it appears that 45.67% of all FSLI union members have said ‘YES’ for the general strike as of June 12, 2017, a number of 27 affiliated trade unions voting 50-86% for this form of protest,” the press release reads.
The FSLI states that, in this context, the legal conditions for triggering the general strike at all affiliated unions are not met.
“In this situation, the legal conditions to trigger the general strike at all FSLI-affiliated unions are not met. We have to say the following: The fact that the conditions for triggering the general strike are not met does not mean that the employees in the education system are satisfied with the unitary wage law, their dissatisfaction is profound, once again, it is proved that despite the fact that they are humiliated, the teachers put the interest of the pupils at the top and do not want them to be affected, it is clear that the governance does not care about the education staff , but they have to take into account the fact that the protests can be resumed after the start of the school year 2017-2018 and we hope that both the pupils and their parents will join us,” FSLI warns.
