The animals’ emotions now gathered in a photo album

Rareș Beșliu has announced the launch of his latest photo album entitled emoții [emotions]. Its 300 pages feature the best shots the photographer took in the last four years he has spent outdoors, allowing the wildlife to be his inspiration.

Most of the photos are accompanied by texts in Romanian and English – accounts of memorable events or imaginary stories, myths or legends and excerpts from poems or songs – that were chosen to help readers feel as if they were right there, in the wild. The choice of images and the accompanying words will surely take anyone through all the possible states and feelings: from upset to enthusiastic, from annoyed to inspired or amused, but mostly and ultimately to loving. All these and many more were both what animals felt when facing the photographer and what Rareș experienced when seeing them through the lens.

”To believe that animals don’t feel emotions is just as foolish as to believe that we are the only species on Earth. I’ve spent so much time among wildlife that I am convinced they have feelings similar to ours even though they can’t blush or sweat, their hands don’t shake, they don’t frown and lack a voice to say ‘I miss you’. This album is a work of love, I believe in it and I hope this is contagious: I wish the readers feel the same, they discover a new face of wildlife and get to love it the way it truly deserves”, Rareș Beșliu declared.

The album features 151 snapshots that illustrate wildlife from different parts of the world: from the Danube Delta birds and Carpathian brown bear to Faroe Islands puffins, from Iceland’s arctic tern to Cuban flamingoes, from Canadian squirrels to the white bears at the North Pole. The species might be very diverse but the images were not captured for documentary purposes; they are artistic and meant to demonstrate and illustrate a wide array of emotions.

Emotions, the photography book by Rareș Beșliu, elicits an abundance of unique feelings from the first page to the last. I have never before enjoyed so much visual richness in a book and I can’t recall having ever experienced such bliss. Page after page my emotions got sharper and my mind was blown by the beauty of wildlife that is almost impossible to describe in words” psychologist Gáspár György wrote in the photo album’s Foreword.

Printed in Romania with love, emoții is a state-of-the-art book that can proudly sit alongside any other famous photo album in the world. The pages are thread-bound and there are tracing paper divider inserts, the cover is hardback and glossy and the album is beautifully presented in a slipcase for an exquisite, unforgettable experience.

You can order emoții online from the author’s website www.raresbesliu.com/emotii as well as purchase it in any Humanitas bookshop. The book launch is scheduled for December 13, 2023 at Librăria Humanitas Lipscani (Strada Lipscani nr. 42) at 7:30 p.m. Paula Herlo will be moderating the event.
