At the Secondary Training Centre for Combat in Smardan, Galaţi County, a ceremony is held on Thursday on the occasion of the arrival in Romania of the first rotating detachment of US military members of the United States Reinsurance Initiative.

The event is attended by Romanian and American officials, as well as by the American Land Forces in Europe. The Justice Eagle 17 military exercise is to take place on the Smardan shooting range until May 5, involving 350 Romanian and American troops, informs.

They were to conduct on Thursday a tactical exercise, including combat shooting with real ammunition, carried out by M1 A2 Abrams tanks and TR-85 M1 Bizonul tanks, Bradley and Jderul fighting vehicles, self-propelled bumpers, supported by MIG-21 Lancer aircraft and IAR- 330 Puma helicopters.

On the other hand, during June-August, there will be no less than 18 international military exercises in Romania and in the Black Sea region, and will be attended by 4,000 troops from over 20 allied and partner states. About 15,000 Romanian soldiers, with more than 2,000 technical means, will take part in these exercises, both in Romania and in the neighbouring countries, informs.

“During June-August, 18 international drills will take place in the Black Sea region, where 40,000 soldiers from over 20 allied and partner countries will participate in joint training activities for collective defence, for testing and for development of defence and deterrence capabilities and for increasing the interoperability of forces,” the MoD informs in a release for

“About 15,000 Romanian soldiers, with more than 2,000 technical means, will take part in these military actions, both on the national territory and in the neighbouring countries,” the MoD says.

This year’s largest NATO exercise, Noble Jump (NOJP 17), will be held in June and will test the operational capabilities of NATO forces on the high performance operational elements (VJTF) and the capabilities to implement the Action Plan to ensure the NATO Operational Capacity (RAP) in Romania and Bulgaria.

In July, the Saber Guardian 2017 (SG 17) exercise will take place in Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. SG 17 is one of the largest exercises in the region, with more than 25,000 troops and 3,000 technical means from more than 20 allied and partner countries, led by the United States Land Forces in Europe (USAREUR), the MoD informs.
