Floarea Serban, the first woman General of the Romania army took over Romarm’s leadership after the former director Dan Tache was arrested for abuse of office last week. Yet, Serban herself is prosecuted in a file related to the purchase of company accommodation based on false statements.
She was appointed following a decision of the Romarm managing board, Ministry of Commerce, Economy and Tourism informs in a press release.
Mihai Tudose, minister in charge, stated he would support “Romarm’s re-launch and revitalization, mentioning that the company’s activity should rely on ‘high moral and ethic criteria’ and should be governed ‘by a high spirit of legality’.”
Romarm Director, Dan Tache and the head of the company’s branch in Brasov, Aurel Veltan, have been arrested for abuse of office in connection with the illegal concluding of contracts for servicing with SC Gold Trans Tour SRL, which received over RON 770,000 without running the provided services.
The new Romarm chief has been working in the defence sector since 1973, holding various top positions such as state secretary within the Romanian Defence Ministry, head of the Judicial assistance Direction of the Defence Ministry or deputy chief of the Romanian military Representation to NATO and EU.
Yet, last year, Floarea Serban and other ten generals and colonels, including former Defence minister Corneliu Dobritoiu were prosecuted in 2013 in the file related to the purchase of company accommodation base on false statements.
Romarm, the National Company for Military Technique, is a state company rejoining 15 subsidiaries. It is one of the largest suppliers for the Romanian Ministry of Defence, producing armoured vehicles on wheels and on tracks, infantry weapons and ammunition, artillery systems, missiles systems and rockets, powders, explosives and propergols.
According to Mediafax, the total value of Romarm’s export contracts concluded last year, including deliveries in 2015 as well, amounts to USD 262 million. Last year, the company exported USD 85 M products.
