The health system, getting closer to general strike

The negotiations on Tuesday between the Health Ministry and the trade unionists have failed to reach a deal. Sanitas leader Leonard Barascu has told Realitatea TV the trade union is getting ready for general strike, as 50,000 employees will see their wages cut. The trade unionists are dissatisfied with the results and threaten to start the general strike.

“They told us: this is the money, you divide it. We said it is a good joke. We are waiting now for the Executive Bureau on Thursday and we are heading towards general strike in the health system, this is what will happen,” Leonard Barascu said.

He added that by the unitary wage law some would have collected increased wages by three times, two times. “They will carry out checks in the country to see where the money is poorly managed. The ministry’s control body will come with new figures, we will try to see how the money could be distributed. We will either give to everyone 10% or 30% or we see where the money is being lost,” Leonard Barascu said.

The Sanitas trade union’s main claims are related to eliminating the 30% ceiling for bonuses in the health system and in the social assistance system; enforcing the wage increases for all employees in these systems as of March 1, 2018; giving up the standard norm for physicians; giving up the transfer of social security and health security contributions from employer to employee; bonuses for working conditions for the entire staff in the health system and social assistance system; the granting of meal vouchers during 2018; the negotiation and signing of the collective bargaining contract.
