The Top 10 European Countries with the Highest Rates of Alcoholism

Overall alcohol consumption in Europe is twice the average global level, and with high consumption, people are more likely to be suffering from alcohol dependency.

But where in Europe are alcoholism levels the worst?
As part of a new study carried out by the team at Private Rehab Clinic Delamere, the data analysts have crunched the numbers to reveal which European populations have the highest percentage of people suffering from alcohol dependency.

Taking first place on the list with nearly a quarter (21.2%) of the population revealed to have drinking issues, was Hungary.

In 2014, it was revealed that Hungary had an alcohol consumption rate that was twice the amount of any other European country, while a 2020 Hungarian study highlighted that much of the alcoholism issue was due to elderly sufferers, rather than the young.

Second place on the list was Belarus, with 18.80% of the population suffering from alcohol addiction. Belarus had one of the highest numbers of alcohol-related deaths, with 19.82 fatalities per 100,000 people.

Finally, in third place was Latvia, with 15.50% suffering from alcoholism.
