Three Dutch people caught by avalanche in the Tarcu Mountains. One of them died

The victim had been taken to the top, by helicopter, by the Caras Severin county leader, Romeo Dunca.

A 44-year-old man died under the snow, being caught by an avalanche in the Tarcu Mountains. He was on a mountain expedition on Căleanu Peak, together with two friends, all three being Dutch citizens.

According to the police, the man was on a mountain expedition when he was surprised by an avalanche.

“From the first checks it was established that today, while they were on a mountain expedition on the Căleanu Peak in the Tarcu Mountains, 3 Dutch citizens would have been surprised by an avalanche, one of them, aged 44, being found died under the snow and transported to the hospital by helicopter”, Caraş-Severin Police said.

The man’s body was taken to the hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The police are continuing the investigation for the crime of manslaughter and are yet to establish the exact cause of death.

In the meantime, new information appeared in the case of the Dutchman who died surprised by an avalanche in the Țarcu Mountains. He was one of the three tourists who were taken to the mountain by helicopter by the president of the Caraș-Severin County Council. Later, in the expedition, the tourists were accompanied by his son.

Romeo Dunca, the president of the Caraș-Severin County Council, explained to Express de Banat that nothing foretold such a tragedy and that all the risks are assumed by lovers of extreme winter sports. He added that meteorologists had not issued any avalanche warning.

Moreover, he claimed that the Dutchman did not follow the safety briefing and would not have deployed the safety airbag, as the other two tourists who escaped with their lives did. Romeo Dunca also mentioned that the Dutch skiers had appropriate equipment, rented from the company run by his son Cristi, and had been trained what to do in case of any danger.
