Two of the Romanian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan – transferred to Army Hospital in Bucharest

Two of the Romanian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan on April 13, who had been initially transferred to a hospital in Germany, have been brought to Romania and are hospitalized at the Carol Davila Army University Hospital in Bucharest, having a good general health condition, the Ministry of Defence informs on Thursday.

“The two soldiers wounded in Afghanistan on April 13, hospitalized at the Regional Medical Centre Landstuhl, Germany, have returned to the country on April 24 and are hospitalized at the Carol Davila Army University Hospital in Bucharest,” the MoD informs in a press release.

The source mentions that the patients were transferred by a C27 J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces.

“On the evening of April 24 the two soldiers were assessed by the Emergency Units of the Hospital in Bucharest, by a multidisciplinary medical team. Following the clinic and Para clinic evaluation it was decided to have them hospitalized at the Multidisciplinary Medical Assistance Centre for Wounded Military in the Operation Theatres. They are in good general health condition and will remain hospitalized for subsequent medical recovery,” the MoD further informs.

Corporals Cristian Gabar and Ionel Cristea had been transferred on April 16 to the Medical Regional Centre in Landstuhl to undergo medical investigations and specialty treatment.

Four Romanian soldiers were wounded on April 13 in Afghanistan after the insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device. The soldiers were in mission in Kandahar province and were further attacked with infantry weapons.

Several MRAP vehicles (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles) operated by the Battalion 300 Defence Force “St. Andrei” were attacked with an improvised explosive device, followed by an attack with light infantry weapons, according to a press release issued at the time by the Defence Ministry.
