Two Ukrainian tourists lost in Rodnei Mountains found after 24 hours

Two women from Ukraine who were hiking in Rodnei Mountains have got lost due to fog. They are reportedly missing for 24 hours. The Ukrainian tourists, aged 45 and 60, were part of a group of tourists on a hike in northern Romania.

On Monday, they were found safe and sound near a weather station in Pietrosul Rodnei. They had no medical issues.

The Romanian Mountain Rescue teams from Maramures and Bistrita-Nasaud counties looked for the tourists that have got lost in the mountains on Sunday, due to intense fog, for 24 hours.

The mountain rescuers have also used a helicopter specialised in mountain rescue operations, but searches have not been successful so far.

Over 30 people, including 16 mountain rescuers, are searching the Pietrosul Rodeni area, where the two foreign women are reportedly missing, but the mission is hindered by the persisting fog and also by the  low deck of clouds.

Two tourists from Ukraine who were taking a tour by bicycle on Transfagarasan alpine road in Romania, have been found almost frozen by the mountain rescuers in May this year.

In June, a young Czech tourist was seriously injured in Făgăraş Mountains.
