An American soldier was seriously injured in Curtici railway station on Tuesday after being electrocuted while on top of a carriage.
The Military Prosecutor’s Office from Timisoara started an investigation in this case.
The US soldier has burns on more than half of his body, with authorities considering transporting him to a hospital in Germany.
The military accompanied a convoy that was leaving Romania after a NATO exercise. The incident occurred in the Curtici railway station, a border locality in Arad county.
The soldier climbed on top of a carriage and was electrocuted. It is not known why he got there, where there were the electric lines.
A SMURD team came on the scene and transported the soldier to the Arad County Hospital. Medical sources said that he has second grade burns on 80% of his body and the authorities consider moving him to a hospital in Germany.
The local authorities from Arad announced the US Embassy in Bucharest.
Several convoys carrying military equipment have left Romania by train, by plane or by car in the past days, via Arad, after attending a large NATO exercise.
