The effects of the snowfall and blizzard were reported in 12 localities from six counties, the Interior Ministry said. Seven trains halted in stations due to the broken trees.

The meteorologists have issued on Saturday a Code Orange for the mountainous regions for snowfall and blizzards and Code Yellow for all regions. The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) warned about strong winds, thermal discomfort and mixed precipitations until Monday morning.

The two codes have come into force on Sunday, October 29, at 10.00h.

ANM informs that wind gusts will reach 80-90 km/h in the mountains and isolated 90-100 km/h. Blizzards and snowfall expected, with a thick snow layer and low visibility below 50 metres.

Rainfall is expected in Maramures, Transylvania, Crisana and Moldavia, along with mixed precipitations.

Temperatures have fallen sharply and will continue to decrease.

The coldest day will be Tuesday, with falling levels down to -8 degrees Celsius in Transylvania and 0C in Bucharest. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, the temperatures will be -6C in eastern Transylvania and lows of 4-5C in the Romanian plain and 1C in the capital city.

Over 4,600 households in Suceava, northern Romania, have run short of electricity due to the strong wind that has broken the electrical network. Over 67 electricity stations of Electrica have run short of electricity supplies in this county. Almost 1,000 households in eight localitaties in Mures also had no electricity. The localitaties running short of electricity are in the mountain areas.

Overall, the effects of the snowfall and blizzard were reported in 12 localities from six counties, the Interior Ministry said.

CFR also announced that seven trains had been affected by the storms which also affected the train traffic. The seven trains had to halt in the railway stations after several trees had been put down by the strong blasts and had fallen on the track rails.

Thirty people in 15 cars were blocked in Cabana Scarita area, on the way to the Padis Chalet in Bistrita-Nasaud, after storng wind had put down a tree. The road has been unblocked by the gendarmes.

Several trees have fallen on the road, blocking roads, in Maramures as well, while problems have been reported in Harghita county on the national road which takes to Lacul Rosu.
