Update:Miner suffers burns at Lupeni coalmine

A miner has suffered burns of degrees II and III on Tuesday, at Lupeni coalmine, on 30% of his body, after an accident occurred underground and has been taken to the Petrosani Emergency Hospital. The 42-year old miner has suffered burns on his face, eyes and arms, digi24.ro reports.

According to available information, the man was working at an electric transformer when an electric arc occurred.

The man has been stabilized and is to be taken over by a hospital in Bucharest.

“The man was surprised by a flame when working on an underground transformer on the low voltage level. The victim has degrees II and III burns on 20-30% of the body surface, i.e. on the arms, chest and face,” the spokesman of Hunedoara Labour Territorial Directorate (ITM), Sorin Istrate, said.

The case was classified as an accident with temporary incapacity for work and will be investigated by the employer, namely the Hunedoara Energy Complex, which manages the Lupeni coalmine, the investigation is to be further approved by ITM Hunedoara.
