Violinist Alexandru Tomescu bought the famous Caraiman chalet in Bucegi

Renowned Romanian violinist Alexandru Tomescu has bought the Caraiman chalet in Bucegi, which he wants to restore and reintroduce to the tourist circuit, Profit.ro reports.

The building has been abandoned for several years. The former owner, a British businessman, owned the building for 16 years, in 2019, the cottage was put up for sale, for about 200,000 euros, but the British citizen did not find a buyer.

Later, he negotiated with Alexandru Tomescu, for six months, through intermediaries, and the final price was somewhere less than 200,000 euros, according to Profit.ro.

The violinist is planning a restoration of the chalet, which would re-enter the tourist circuit and offer shelter to those who need it, in fact exactly the purpose for which it was built.

“I’m looking for information about the history of the chalet, the names of former cabin owners, old photos. I want it to be a different cottagen, that inspires others and shows that something beautiful and comfortable can be done. I don’t want a 5-star hotel, I don’t want to do a business, I want something with mountain specifics, but also with an aesthetic side. A place for mountaineers, but also for musicians and artists in general,” Tomescu told Profit.ro.

The chalet was built in 1937, at an altitude of 2,025 meters, in the area of the Bucegilor plateau.

Alexandru Tomescu used to perform unique concerts in the Bucegi Mountains, at an altitude of over 2 thousand meters, in front of the Caraiman chalet, with the Stradivarius Elder-Voicu violin.
