‘We don’t give up, we resist’ protesters chanted on the 11th day of anti-governmental rallies

Around 4,500 people staged new protests in Victoria Square in Bucharest, for the 11th day in a row on Friday night, to protest against the Executive.

The demonstrators are asking the Government’s resignation and chanting: “Resignation, resignation,” “Day by day, we’ll be here,” “DNA should come and take you,” “At night, like thieves.”

At 9 p.m. sharp protesters sang the National Anthem and lit the mobile phone screens. People were waving Romania’s flag, while a man displayed an electronic message reading “We don’t give up, we resist.”

Some other thousands were also asking for the Grindeanu Gov’t resignation countrywide, arguing they cannot trust the current Executive anymore after it had adopted the controversial emergency ordinance no 13 which intended to amend the criminal law and decriminalize some corruption offenses.

On the other side, there was the sixth day in a row for the anti-Iohannis protest in front of the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest, with around 400 people joining the rally.

Anti-presidential protests were also in ohter cities. For instance, approx. 1,000 people protested in front of the Prefect’s Office in Alba, asking for Klaus Iohannis’ resignation. During their protest, a young man protesting against the Gov’s came with a placard in the middle of the anti-Iohannis demonstrators. When they noticed the young man, they started cursing him and shouting at him. The young man was taken out from the angry crowd by the gendarmes and asked to leave the area.

Protesters in Alba chanted slogans against the Romanian president, including “Iohannis skiing, Alba protesting”, hinting to the short trip the President has taken for skiing in Sureanu Mountains on Friday.
