Ecuador, Mexico, and Malta were ranked the top three destinations for expats, according to the latest Expat Insider Survey for 2015 released by InterNations.org.
In order to complete the survey, InterNations asked a total of 14,000 participants from 195 countries a series of questions relating to their abroad experience. The resulting list of top destinations for expats is based off factors such as job opportunities, salary considerations, quality of life, and safety.
Romania ranked 27th on the top expat destinations for 2015 behind European countries such as Austria (11), Switzerland (14), Poland (15), Germany (16), Portugal (20), the Czech Republic (22) and the Netherlands (25).
Only two European states entered the top ten: Malta, which ranks third and Luxembourg coming fifth. Romania is preceded by Hong Kong globally (26) and followed by Japan (28), Hungary (29) and Spain (30).
Romania is very attractive for expats with lower incomes (equal or lower than USD 25,000/year), ranking eighth in top ten.
The low earner expats’ favorite destination is Greece, followed by Ecuador, The Czech Republic, Portugal, Cyprus, Argentina, Romania, Costa Rica and Spain.
At the same time, Romanians seem to be more hospitable to expats, ranking 13th on this factor, after Argentina and before New Zealand.
