According to a survey on the mobile devices usage conducted by EY Romania, 58% of the women have mobile phones and 53% have a smartphone, while men own mostly phablets (72%), fitness bracelets (58%) and smart watches (78%).
The study claims that we are using mobile devices according to gender. The type of device, age and mostly gender are influencing our behavior of consuming information. Thus, men and women have the same access to technology, only they use it differently, considers Constantin Magdalina, Knowledge Management Senior, EY Romania. The authors of the study estimate that in the future the mobile devices would be clearly segmented and customized according to gender.
„Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO) seems to be the main way to use these devices. Women are prompter in using them, with 64% accessing their mobile devices immediately after they wake up.
The study also reveals that the increased need to be connected is more obvious in men’s case. 56% of women check their mobile devices 10-50 times a day, while 53% of men are doing that 51-200 times a day.
Women mostly use their mobile devices to check the social networks (59%), to play games (57%) and for shopping and entertainment (55%).
According to the survey, women aged 35 to 45 are the most frequent users of phablets (46%), tablets (41%) and mobile phones (35%), while smartphones (35%), fitness bracelets (47%) and smart watches (57%) are mostly owned by younger women (aged 25 to 35).
Men aged 35 to 45 are preferring fitness bracelets (56%), smart watches (48%), tablets and smartphones (39%) and phablets (36%). Thus, data show that both women and men under 45 are more open to use the latest mobile devices.
On applications, women mostly use the lifestyle apps (67%), health & fitness (59%) and books (57%), while men usually use sport apps (63%), utilities (58%) and finances (55%).
On average, women use 1 to 10 applications, while men use more than 10 apps. The study authors believe that women are intensely using apps for their interests, while men are extensively using them, while exploring more and more options.
