Yellow and orange code warnings for blizzards and snow in Romania

Meteorologists issued yellow and orange code warnings for blizzards and snow in several areas of the country, valid this weekend.

According to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), the yellow code warning is valid until Sunday morning at 10:00.

Until Saturday morning at 08:00, in the Banat Mountains area and in the western Southern Carpathians, significant snowfall (15…20 l/mp) is expected, and a snow layer will accumulate. Especially in the highland areas, speeds of over 60…70 km/h are forecast, with periods of blizzards and reduced visibility. In the counties of Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, and Dolj, the wind will intensify with speeds of 55…60 km/h.

Snowfall is expected in the rest of the mountainous areas, and on Saturday morning (November 18), predominantly snowfall is forecast in eastern Transylvania and northern Moldova. In the period from November 18, 08:00, to November 19, 10:00, significant precipitation, snowfall, and wind gusts are announced. Thus, in the eastern half of the country and in the mountains, significant precipitation is expected, locally 25…35 l/mp, and isolated over 50 l/mp. This will be in the form of snow in the mountains and predominantly snowfall in most of Moldova and southeastern Transylvania, where a consistent snow layer will accumulate locally.

In Dobrogea and Muntenia, there will be rain and occasionally, on Saturday night to Sunday (November 18/19), scattered sleet and snow in restricted areas. The wind will intensify in the southwest, east, and southeast of the country, with speeds of 55…65 km/h. In the Subcarpathians of Moldova and Curvature Carpathians, as well as in the mountains, there will be temporary blizzards, and gusts will exceed 60…80 km/h. Throughout Sunday, the wind will continue to intensify in the southeast of the country and in the mountains, according to meteorologists.

Orange code for blizzards in the Southern Carpathians and Curvature Carpathians

In the period from November 18, 14:00, to November 19, 10:00, locally in the Southern Carpathians and Curvature Carpathians, sustained intensification of the wind with gusts of 80…110 km/h is expected, accompanied by snowfall and blizzards, and visibility will drop below 50 m.

At the same time, there will be wind gusts of 85..90kmph in southern Moldavia, eastern Muntenia, Dobrogea and the western basin of the Black Sea, with over 100kmph.
