Yogy, a 43-year-old brown bear, died on Monday morning at the Libearty Sanctuary in Zărnești, announced the representatives of the Brașov “Millions of Friends” association.
Yogy is considered the oldest in Romania and probably the second oldest in the world. Yogy was taken to the Libearty Sanctuary in Sibiu after spending more than 30 years at the Zoo in the municipality on the Cibin River.
Even though he was old, the brown bear was full of energy and spent most of his time exploring the forest around Libearty Sanctuary.
“Rescued after 30 years of captivity at the Sibiu Zoo, Yogy has always amazed us with his zest for life and curiosity to know every patch of land in the forest of the AMP Libearty Sanctuary. Unfortunately, at the beginning of last summer, the signs of old age made themselves felt. He began to struggle to walk, to stand up with difficulty, so he was moved to a smaller pen where his health could be carefully monitored. In the last period, he always needed painkillers”, said the representatives of the sanctuary.
